Media Education Concepts for Museums

medienfux gGmbH has developed and presented a series of media education concepts that are specifically geared to the needs of children and young people. These concepts include workshops that are carried out using technical devices such as Calliope, BeeBot and Chipz, as well as the innovative workshop "Children explain IT", which was already mentioned in an earlier article.

Calliope is a microcontroller that was developed especially for children and beginners. It allows participants to learn programming in a playful way and to implement their own projects. The Calliope Mini has a 5×5 LED matrix, buttons and various sensors that allow children to create interactive programs. With simple programming instructions, children can quickly achieve their first successes and learn basic computer science concepts.

BeeBot is a small, programmable robot in the shape of a bee that is controlled by buttons on its back. Children can enter simple programming commands with the BeeBot to make it move forward, backward or turn 90 degrees. With up to 40 stored commands, the BeeBot promotes children's analytical thinking and problem-solving skills in a playful way. It is particularly suitable for younger children to introduce them to the basics of programming

Chipz is another technical device used in the workshops. It is a programmable building block that helps children learn the basics of programming and robotics. Chipz enables participants to create their own projects using simple programming instructions, thus promoting creative thinking and understanding of technical connections.

The workshop "Children explain IT" aims to promote understanding of information technology. The children themselves take on the role of teachers and teach their peers basic IT skills. This approach not only strengthens the children's self-confidence, but also promotes their communication skills and teamwork.

medienfux gGmbH places great value on the active involvement of children in the learning process. The content of the workshops is developed together so that participants can not only passively consume, but also actively create. This not only promotes media competence, but also creativity and critical thinking. Through these media education concepts, medienfux gGmbH makes an important contribution to the digital education of children and young people. The workshops are designed not only to teach participants technical skills, but also to create an awareness of the responsible use of media.
